This Weekend’s Events

The riding season is off to a great start here in New Brunswick. The Victoria Day weekend saw many people out riding, and now the Velodrome NB events begin. We hope you all have your legs in shape, and are ready to tackle some great challenges this year.

We start the season with the great “Ellen’s Tour de Sussex”. An event to honour Ellen Watters, and a chance to show off the great riding of Kings County where Ellen learned to ride, and ride strong. Funds raised from the ride will be used to promote cycling in Sussex, riding camps for kids, and also to provide a scholarship to a female athlete from SRHS. The ride is SOLD OUT, however if you are not a part of the event, volunteers are still needed. Visit www.ellenstour.ca/volunteers for more information.

A ride to honour Ellen will certainly involve good food, and good coffee.

On Saturday the Wild & Wooly Junior XCO takes place at Woolastook Park just outside of Fredericton. The race course is designed with youth racers in mind, and so are the categories. U19, U17, U15, U13, and U11 racers are invited to experience racing for their first time, or to challenge themselves against some of the best junior racers in the province. Pre-Registration is available, so sign up today.

On Sunday is the second running of the Fitworks Active Club Prison Break. A dirt and gravel road experience unlike any other, with two different distances to choose from. Information on registration, route, pricing, and all you’ll need is located here.

We hope you get out and #BEONYOURBIKE this weekend wherever you are.

2017 Provincial Youth MTB Team

Over the course of the winter, Velo NB engaged in creating a youth developmental team for mountain biking. Lead by Pierre McIntyre our Youth Development Representative, we’ve been able to achieve great success in developing a strategic plan, outlining goals, and filling in positions on the coaching and volunteer team.

At this time we would like to present the team that was selected by the selection committee. These racers represent New Brunswick from all points North to South, East to West. We are lucky to be represented by talent from across the province.  [Continue Reading…]
